Positive Behavior Supports
School wide positive behavior support (SWPBS) is an intervention program used to shape and teach students about appropriate behavior. SWPBS must be research-based and data driven. This intervention process is similar to the RTI (response to intervention) process. There are three tiers. Tier 1 holds 80-90% of the school population. Some tier 1 behavior supports include a school-wide assembly, posters, bucket-filler talk. Tier 2 holds 10-15% of the school population. These are the students that need some more guidance and support in regards to appropriate behavior. Some tier 2 supports include a check-in, check-out system, and Plan B from Lost at School. Finally, tier 3 holds 2-5% of the school population and it is an individualized support system.
