Behavior Plans & Functional Behavior Assessment
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) are useful tools to evaluate the reasoning behind a student's behavior. A student may have multiple behavior problems, but it is important to focus on one behavior at a time. FBA shows the time of day the certain behavior occurs and how long that behavior lasts. The reason behind a student's behavior may not have anything to do with school, so the FBA is very detailed in order to find the reason behind the behavior. The FBA is very detailed and is the data need in order to create a behavior plan.
A behavior plan is made from the data on the FBA, and focuses on changing one specific behavior. The behavior plan not only identifies the problem behavior, but it also identifies a replacement behavior for the student. The replacement behavior is a positive behavior that resembles the problem behavior. Behavior plans are legal documents and teachers must enforce them.
